WELCOME TO SOFT FOREST AT PARRAMATTA TOWN HALL

SOCIAL SCRIPT

The Microsoft Word version of the Social Script is available to download here.

Before the Show

  • We are going to see Soft Forest at Parramatta Town Hall

  • When we arrive, we go to ground level at PHIVE, Parramatta

  • A friendly person will:

    • Scan our tickets and show us where to wait until the show starts

Starting the Show

  • The friendly person will tell us it is time to go through the doors and through the big blue curtain

  • We will walk through the big blue curtain into Parramatta Town Hall.

  • An Erth performer will gather us behind a barrier and tell us to sing in order to wake up Fauna

  • After we sing, kids will be given headphones and some adults will be asked to stand to the side, where they will be given some glowing firefly puppets

  • Kids will hear a voice in their headphones telling them what to do next

  • Some adults will go into the room next door to learn how to make the fireflies light up and move together

During the Show

  • When the voice in the headphones says so, kids will follow the performer with an Orange Fish

  • Kids will follow the person with the orange fish around the barrier into area with light

  • Here, Fauna will appear on the other side of the room

  • She is 4 metres tall when standing on her 2 legs, but she can crawl on her knees, or sit on the ground. When seated she has big arms that can wrap around you in a hug

  • Fauna will invite the kids to sit on picnic rugs on the green mats. Blankets will be there if you want to feel cosy

  • The kids will listen to Fauna’s story through the headphones

  • Kids will be invited to follow her instructions, and to close their eyes and use their imaginations

  • While this happens, the adults with fireflies will come through the back into the Parramatta Town Hall moving together like a glowing swarm, and rejoin the kids

  • The firefly puppets will then interact with Fauna and the kids. They’re made from small LED lights on the ends of re-purposed fishing rods

Ending the Show

  • Fauna will say goodbye to everyone

  • Kids will give their headphones back to the person with the Orange Fish

  • Adults will give their fireflies back

  • Everyone will walk into the Ngurra Gunya room where they will be taught how to make a Paper Puppet of Fauna

  • This puppet making workshop will last 15 minutes

After the Show

  • Adults and kids will leave the Ngurra Gunya room with their paper puppet of Fauna

  • Everyone can take their paper puppet of Fauna home and play with her, or they can choose to plant her heart which is made from paper with seeds in it and watch a plant slowly grow!
